Calmness of Mind

The basic premise of Bushido is that the mind must always be calm and level-headed if one is to master it. If the mind is completely calm and clear, one can even see God. Additionally, a warrior must always keep his composure, even when confronted with danger and fear, and maintain a state of mind that allows him to compose poems and sing songs in any circumstance. Elegant and refined manners are considered to create a state of calmness and draw on unlimited power.

This piece is a literary expression of calmness and composure of mind. The design also expresses a calm and composed mind by lowering the center of gravity of the letters. The text reads, "The spiritual aspect of valor is evidenced by composure, calm presence of mind. Tranquility is courage in repose." This calligraphy is a meditative reflection on these teachings, intended to evoke a sense of peace and contemplation in its beholder.
