Originally crafted during the Showa period (1926-1989) and restored in 2021, this piece combines the striking red of Arita ware with the elegance of black urushi lacquer. The contrast between red, symbolizing vitality, and black, representing dignity, gives the bowl a refined and balanced aesthetic.
The bowl’s broken parts have been meticulously restored using urushi lacquer, with black lacquer lines enhancing the visual harmony. Accompanied by a paulownia wood box, this matcha bowl is not only a functional item but also a work of art that embodies tradition, beauty, and strength.
To ensure the authenticity and originality of the artwork, both digital and hard copies of the letter of authenticity, signed by myself, will be provided. This documentation attests to the genuine craftsmanship and philosophical inspiration behind the piece, adding significant value and trust for collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese art.

This Arita ware matcha bowl represents the pinnacle of Japanese ceramic craftsmanship, with roots dating back to the 17th century in Saga Prefecture. The red-based design of this bowl, crafted during the Showa period, is known for its vibrancy and precision. Arita ware has long been celebrated for its beauty and durability, making it highly sought after for tea ceremonies.
The kintsugi restoration involved carefully repairing the cracks with urushi lacquer, and black lacquer was applied to emphasize the delicate lines. This created smooth curves that enhance the visual appeal of the bowl. The combination of red and black reflects both the energy and calmness of the tea ceremony, adding to the bowl’s aesthetic and symbolic value.
